Font Pairing Project:Date: 11/10/16 What does it mean to create a font pairing? Creating a font pairing means to marry typefaces, find mixtures of fonts that work, combinations that hit it off, pairings that make sense. Font pairing is using fonts that compliment each other. What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each. The assignments I chose to do were Assignment 1: create a font pairing for the saying “what comes easy won’t last”, Assignment 3: create a font pairing for any destination, Assignment 4: a famous quote, and Assignment 8: a font pairing for the saying “26 Letters endless possibilities”. For Assignment 1, I used two fonts, a script looking font and a more robust font. I wanted to create emphasis on the words “easy” and “last” so I made them larger. For Assignment 3, the destination I chose was Maui, Hawaii. For this font pairing I chose a simple font and a more complex font. For Assignment 4 the quote I chose was “Whatever you are, be a good one”. Here I put emphasis on “Good one” by making it larger and choosing a font with high contrast. For the last Assignment, I placed emphasis on “endless” and “26” by using more complex fonts and used a handwriting looking font for the words “letters” and “possibilities”. Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why? I would say my best assignment was Assignment 3. I think this because the fonts really work together with each other and the background, possibly because the font color was chosen directly from the background. I tried to use fonts that I would associate with that place and I think it was pretty successful. Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why? The assignment that I would say is my weakest was Assignment 8. The font pairing in this assignment was ok, but I personally think its kind of boring to look at. How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult? The font pairing process was pretty simple. You would just find fonts that would work together, such as simple and complex, bold and thin, or all caps and lowercase. Font pairing can be difficult because it is hard to choose which font would work the best for what you are trying to accomplish. Also composition proved to be a challenge during this project.
